Starting at 18, my self-awareness exploded. It became clear just how much was possible in a single lifetime, but I didn’t know how to achieve it. I fell in love with the relationship between consciousness and matter, how the energetic patterns beneath the surface shape our external realities. I wanted to learn how to access this space of energy to co-create within it, but I knew it could only be accessed through love.

The problem was, I didn’t know how to love. I only knew how to hate myself.

I was burdened by self-criticism, shame, and stuckness. Despite my self-awareness, I couldn’t reach the core of me with love and curiosity. I dreamed of a life that felt like summer camp — filled with meaningful friendships, the pursuit of world-class athleticism, and creative contributions to the world. But back then, I felt so far from that dream and had no idea how to bridge the gap.

For some time I've struggled with using self awareness as a further way to shame, punish and criticise myself, with each new layer peeled away, opened the door to further criticism, driven from this shameful self awareness. Many aspect of compassion can feel 'fluffy', inaccessible or even so foreign, that that application of the concept becomes more challenging. I've heard about negative core beliefs being formed because that's how we could survive childhood trauma but the way Flynn presented it helped me really understand it in a new way.
